FAA Requirements for Instrument Rating
The US Instrument rating gives a pilot the ability and authority to operate an aircraft in the clouds, on an instrument flight plan. The minimum FAA requirements for attaining an instrument rating are:

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot License.
  • Have flown at least 50 hours cross country as pilot-in-command.
  • Have at least 40 hours instrument experience *
  • Hold a third class FAA medical certificate
  • Pass an oral and flight test.

Students who complete our training course should have no problems passing the required tests!
* Note!  For students who enroll in our FAA approved Part 141 Instrument rating course are  the total instrument flight time is reduced from 40 to 35 hours.
